Getting There

This walk was organised as a Wednesday walk by the combined CBC/FBI/NPA clubs, led by Allan M:

('The walk this Wednesday 8 December will be to Deadmans Hill near Booroomba Rocks. We will climb the hill via the (overgrown) fire trail, and descend off track via the North-East ridge through what appear to be "interesting" rock outcrops. Return along the Alps Walking Track. The length, variations, and exact route will be adjusted to suit the weather and the party. The current forecast for Wednesday is "Rain periods, thunderstorm. Min:13 Max: 23". If this is hopelessly wrong and it is stinking hot, I will re-route to the Murrumbidgee.').

14 of us walked.  We met at Kambah Shops at 8.30am and drove via the southern suburbs, through Tharwa, right into Apollo Road to just short of the Honeysuckle Creek Camping Ground.  Turned right and down the dirt road to the Booroomba Rocks car park.

Walk

We walked east from the car park up the old fire trail.  Very easy to pick and very easy walking.  The top of Deadmans Hill (1317m) was soon reached.  There were the foundations of an old tower and views down onto Apollo Road.  We had a leisurely morning tea.

We then headed down the northern side of the hill to Booroomba Creek and the Australian Alps Walking Track.  There were views to Bushfold Flats.  It was not possible to distinguish the foot pad of the AAWT, as the creek was choked with weeds and other growth.  We pushed up the creek on the northern bank till we found a cleared patch for a long lunch.

From this point the AAWT could be discerned and, as we got closer to the car park, it was marked by the occasional ribboned tree.

A very easy walk, with a pretty section on the upper part of Booroomba Creek.

Distance: 5.4km  Time: 9.20am-1.50pm, with 1 hour 10 minutes of stops.
